Harold Primat delighted with new aero as Pescarolo Sport make big gains at Le Mans test

Harold Primat was left eagerly anticipating his third Le Mans 24 Hours, which will take place in less than two weeks time, after Pescarolo Sport made some impressive gains during last weekend’s official test day.

The team not only found a solution to the Geneva-based driver’s issues with comfort inside the cockpit, but also made some big strides forward in terms of performance thanks to their new aero package. The no. 16 Pescarolo-Judd 01 was the fastest of all the non-diesel cars, setting the fourth quickest overall time, ahead of the second works Peugeot and although the no. 17 car concentrated primarily on long runs and was denied any quick laps on soft rubber due to a red flag, it still finished inside the top ten.

Having worked hard all weekend Primat was hugely satisfied with the overall outcome of the test. “This is now the most comfortable car I have raced in a long time!” he enthused having struggled to Seat his 6ft 3incs (189cm) frame inside the cockpit so far this season. “The test went really well. We did a lot of longer runs and most of our work was with race set-up in mind. We also did some work on performance and our lap times were representative of those that we should expect in the race.

“We were going to put the softer tyres on later in the day, like the 16 car did, and that would have seen quicker lap times, but the safety car came out and put an end to that.

“However, the new aero is excellent and brings a lot more stability to the car. There’s also less drag on the straights, and through the speed traps I think the Pescarolos were the fastest of the non-diesel cars. I think we have a really good, strong car for the race.”

Henri Pescarolo was also extremely pleased with a hugely successful weekend’s work. “This was the first time we have run the new aero package and we’re really happy because what we thought we’d found during development was confirmed. We have gained about two seconds and found a well balanced set-up between stability and performance. Harold was very competitive and I think all six of our drivers did a great job.”
