“BUMBLEBEE”, one of the central characters in the saga of aliens who take mechanical forms when on Earth, changes from the classic 1977 Chevrolet Camaro. “AUTOBOT JAZZ” converts from a Pontiac Solstice in a hardtop format. A Hummer H2, modified as a rescue vehicle, changes into “AUTOBOT RATCHET,” and “IRONHIDE” changes from a GMC medium-duty truck.
“The first time I saw the new Camaro, while touring the GM Design Center, I knew immediately that it would be the perfect ‘BUMBLEBEE’,” said Michael Bay, the film’s Director. He continued, “It’s got beautiful lines and a classic, timeless look. There were no other cars that came even close.”
Chevrolet Europe will roll out a fully integrated marketing and promotional effort around the release of the movie. Activities in Europe include seven Chevrolet Camaro replica models of the character ‘BUMBLEBEE’, which will be featured at motor shows, dealerships and other marketing activities throughout the year.
“’TRANSFORMERS™’ is a compelling project and offers us a platform for marketing GM products and building awareness, especially for the Chevrolet brand in Europe,” said Wayne Brannon, Executive Director Chevrolet Europe. “We will introduce the new Chevrolet Camaro as a fast follower to the launch in North America, which is planned for 2009”, continued Brannon.
