The innovation and leading-edge, relevant technology that is present in the American Le Mans Series continues to gain attention throughout the entire motorsports community. At the forefront in 2007 is the Series' platform of alternative fuels which features Audi's revolutionary diesel-powered R10 TDI.

The factory prototype effort has won in its only two appearances at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and helped Audi to the 2006 LMP1 championship in the American Le Mans Series.

It is the only series in the world that sees the R10 TDI compete on a full-time basis. Dave Despain, host of SPEED's acclaimed Wind Tunnel, held the American Le Mans Series up in a recent discussion of alternative fuel strategies in motorsports. An excerpt follows:

"This week I moderated a discussion among a bunch of motorsport heavy-hitters - Mario Illien, co-founder of Ilmor; Herb Fishel, retired head of racing for General Motors, guys at that level - who were invited by Toyota to the Monterey Historics. Among the items discussed were the best-known "green racing" success story so far...Audi's Le Mans-winning diesel, a textbook example of environmentally friendly technology developed and showcased in the crucible of high-profile racing. ...

"On the fuel front, non-diesel entries in the American Le Mans Series now race on an ethanol/gasoline blend."

The American Le Mans Series is the only motorsports body in the world that features multiple street-legal alternative energy sources - clean diesel and E10. Through partnerships with diesel fuel supplier Shell and EPIC (Ethanol Promotion and Information Council), the American Le Mans Series has taken the leadership role in motorsports for the furthering of alternative fuel technology and use.

It also illustrates deeper the Series' relevance to its list of prestigious manufacturers and affluent consumer base.
