Jeremy Clarkson climbs to new heights

It’s arguably the most daring stunt ever for the organisers of the Jeremy Clarkson-fronted performance and prestige motor show, MPH ’07.  Next month it will showcase a simultaneous race between a 4x4 and a professional climber up a 40ft man made mountain …indoors!

Clarkson will tackle the gravity-testing 45-degree incline in a Land Rover Discovery, and then park the car at the summit – hopefully before the mountaineer reaches the top.

Organisers of the MPH Show, which unites Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May for the first time in a live motoring theatre, have really laid down the gauntlet to the TV presenter with the mountain stunt.

Standing 40ft high, the steel construction has taken an incredible three months to build.  Against the clock and against one another, the mountaineer will climb a vertical face, complete with overhangs, as Clarkson precariously races up a 45ft artificial rock surface.

“There is little room for error,” said a spokesman for the show. “It will be a real challenge for Clarkson to reach the top safely and a great spectacle that’s for sure!”

Last year’s MPH Show saw the television presenter ride a rocket powered bicycle, play human skittles with James May in a shopping trolley pushed by a 500bhp Shelby Mustang and compete in a jet propelled wheelchair race.

Complete with £27,654,000 worth of supercars, including every 200mph+ production car built, MPH ’07 will debut on the 1-4 November at Earls Court before moving to Birmingham’s NEC from the 8-11 November. Further details can be found at www.mphshow.co.uk.  Tickets are available online from £23 through or via the MPH hotline 0871 230 0333.
