Grande Punto Abarth S2000

A competition car designed for racing teams, the Grande Punto Abarth S2000 of Reparto Corse has won the Italian Rally Championship 2007 with driver Giandomenico Basso and navigator Mitia Dotta. The same car did well also in the IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge) Championship driven by Anton Alen, Andrea Navarra and Umberto Scandola.

Equipped with 2000 cc 270 HP naturally aspirated power unit coupled to four-wheel-drive transmission, the new Grande Punto Abarth S2000 is the heir to the winner of the 2006 European Championship and of the Intercontinental Rally Challenge by Giandomenico Basso and Mitia Dotta, as well as the Italian Rally Championship 2006 (7 trophies).

The car, of which 30 units have been built to date, is on order for a number of racing teams, also outside Europe, for rally competitions at both national and international levels.
Next year Team Abarth will enrol two Grande Punto Abarth S2000 official cars for the IRC (Intercontinental Rally Challenge) Championship consisting of ten races in Europe, Africa and Asia.

Last but not least, in line with tradition dating back to more than three decades (the first Campionato Autobianchi A112 Abarth took place in 1977), Abarth has organized the Abarth Adler Plastic 2007 Trophy – reserved to Fiat Punto Super 1600 and Panda Rally cars – and the Abarth Oro Diesel Trophy, lead by the Grande Punto Abarth Multijet cars. At the end of the 6 races of the first competition season for the Grande Punto Multijet the champion was Alessio Pisi, a young driver from Liguria winner of the Fiat Panda Rally Cup 2006 (this award enabled him to compete in the Trofeo Oro Diesel 2007).

The Grande Punto Multijet was uprated using an Abarth conversion kit to become a fully fledged racer which is highly competitive and already fully conforming to Group R3 requirements. The 180 HP power unit is coupled to a 6-speed sequential transmission. Alessio Pisi has also won the Italian Championship 2007 Diesel Trophy, again driving the Grande Punto Multijet. Finally, also in the coming racing season the Abarth Trophy will attract new young teams competing in the high-prestige races of the Italian Championship.
