Coventry University's automotive journalists are in demand

Coventry University’s Automotive Journalism MA course is supported by the Guild of Motoring Writers as part of its training umbrella for writers aspiring to enter automotive journalism. So we are delighted by its 100% success rate in finding jobs for its graduates.
The 2006/7 group completed their course during the summer, and were back in Coventry on 23 November to receive their Master of Arts awards at Coventry Cathedral – every one of them already working in the automotive or publishing industries.
Five of the students have secured staff positions with motoring media, one is a successful freelance writer and one has secured a marketing post in the car industry:
• Owen Ready is working for Sky Motoring
• Jack Rix is a staff writer for Auto Express
• Rosie McMahon is a sub-editor at What Car?
• Rob Marshall is freelancing for UK and US motoring magazines
• Tom Phillips works for Dennis Publishing on a new motoring project
• Ian Mitchell is a product executive at Audi UK, working on the A6, Q7 and allroad
“It’s a tribute to the hard work they put in during the year they have been studying in Coventry,” said automotive journalism lecturer and Guild member Andrew Noakes. “They have developed skills in writing, subbing and page layout, together with an understanding of the industry – and it’s a combination which employers in automotive publishing are clearly crying out for.”
Motoring publishers are increasingly turning to Coventry to fill vacancies because they understand the value of the course and the quality of its graduates. Coventry’s automotive journalism course is now in its fourth year of producing high-quality graduates. Alumni from previous years include Sean Moriarty of Motorsport News, Jon Quirk of Sky Motoring and Christopher Hubbard of Motoring Research and Matt Rigby of Autocar.
