Asia Racing Team driver invited by A1GP leaders

Asia Racing Team (ART) Motorsports 2007 driver Alexandre Imperatori will have his first outing as A1 Team Switzerland ‘rookie driver’ in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport at Zhuhai International Circuit in the People’s Republic of China.

The 20-year-old Swiss driver has never tested for the team or driven an A1GP car, however, his experience from three years of racing in Asia with ART and six past races at Zhuhai International Circuit made him a natural choice for championship leader team principal Max Welti for the rookie session according to the team official Press-Release.

Alex Imperatori arrived to Asia Racing Team (ART) Motorsports in 2004 where he got his first victory. He continued in Asian Formula Renault in 2006 winning the Chinese Formula Renault championship and finishing runner-up in the Asian series, he and was runner-up again in 2007.

In the end of the year he was invited by Renault Sport to test a World Series Formula Renault 3.5. Commenting on his signing to A1 Team Switzerland, ART Motorsports Team Manager Philippe Descombes said: “It is excellent to witness that one of our drivers, who came to us with zero experience few years ago, can be hired to a high level category now.

It means that we are developing racing drivers in the proper way. Definitely he will be an exceptional
help for his team since his track ‘know how’ is quite good. On behalf of ART, I wish Alex all the best for his first A1 attempt.”

Asia Racing Team (ART) Motorsports is looking forward next Asia Formula Renault Challenge season, and will start the 2008 driver’s evaluation in the next few days.
