Grand Racing to debut in January 2008 at Dubai Autodrome


Grand Racing will provided two action packed days of Motorsport featuring the sensational Speedcar Series concept and GP2 Asia along with the UAE’s national racing categories all on the same bill. Grand Racing makes it’s international debut at the Dubai Autodrome on 25 and 26 January 2008. For the die hards Thursday 24 January will be a practice and qualifying day.

The Grand Racing concept incorporates two vastly different modes of motorsport on one race weekend ensuring entertainment and action for race fans.

Speedcar is being hyped as “Born in Dubai. Built for Speed” and will feature some legendary drivers in action against a host of up and coming youngsters including the UAE’s very own Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum behind the wheel of monster V8, 620 horse power purpose built stock cars. After two eye opening demonstration races in Bahrain and Dubai the series has race fans salivating for the real deal and this will be during the Dubai Autodrome when the green light sets them off for the very first race of the series.

GP2 Asia is the migration of the ultra-successful GP2 Series, which until now has been Eurocentric but has spread it’s wings to the region which is currently boasting the fastest growth of Motorsport anywhere on the globe. Drivers in this series have their eyes set on one goal: making it into Formula One. A fantasy? Definitely not if you consider that the current crop of young guns plying their trade in Formula One. These include the likes of Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil, Heikki Kovalainen and the list goes on. The next generation of superstars will line up to contest the GP2 Asia series.

Household names and future Formula One stars to feature in Speedcar Grand Racing preview Speedcar action
A mere twelve days after the 24 Hours of Dubai the focus of world Motorsport will again hone in on the Dubai Autodrome for the newly fledged Grand Racing event which is set to take the region by storm. Three action packed days of Motorsport featuring the sensational Speedcar Series concept and GP2 Asia along with the UAE’s national racing categories all on the same bill.

The Speedcar demo runs in Bahrain and more recently at Dubai Autodrome gave fans a taste of what to expect during the Grand Racing spectacle. Former Formula One greats such as Jean Alesi, Johnny Herbert, Gianni Morbidelli and Stefan Johansson will take on a host of up and coming drivers including the likes of Matthias Lauda, Narain Karthikeyan, Moreno Soepaptro, Nicolas Navarro and the UAE’s very own Sheikh Hasher Al Maktoum. Throw in to the mix sportscar and tin top aces such as Uwe Alzen, David Terrien, Fabien Giroix, Nico Caldarola – let this illustrious group loose in thundering V8 purpose built stock cars – and the ingredients for great blockbuster racing is on the cards.

Fan friendly atmosphere are the buzz words as the Speedcar Series organizers will be bending over backwards to allow race fans to mingle with their heroes and given an inside look into one of the most exciting new racing series’ to be contrived in recent years.

Young guns go into battle in GP2 Asia series
GP2 Asia Series is the other half of the Grand Racing double header designed to bring the highest level of one-make single-seater action to the emerging motorsport nations in the Middle East and Asia.

GP2 in Europe was the stage that launched the careers of the current crop of young Formula One stars including Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Adrian Sutil and Timo Glock to name a few. For the teams, the GP2 Asia Series will also be an opportunity to build on their European successes, and to spread their influence and knowledge into the Asian market, tapping into new sources of talent and knowhow, whilst also being included in new spheres of business and discoveringGrand Racing GP2 Asia preview new and exciting revenue sources.

The concept of the GP2 Asia Series is to bring the excitement and potential of the world’s foremost Formula One feeder category to the emerging motorsport nations of the world, and to provide a step on the ladder to aspiring young drivers from the Middle East and Asia.

The series will be an integral part of the double bill featuring Speedcar Series and will provide an exciting element to the Grand Racing proceedings. Young drivers with their eyes firmly targeted on Formula One will be going all out to impress as doing well is likely to capture the eye of Formula One team managers who in turn could provide the young drivers a step into the upper echelons of the sport.

Dubai Autodrome hosts round one of the five round Grand Racing series featuring Speedcar and GP2 Asia with each category featuring a race on Friday and a race on Saturday.

Regional & local racing given an international platform
A program of regional and local racing will be announced soon providing fans with an action packed two days of top notch entertainment and action at the Dubai Autodrome on Friday and Saturday, 25/26 December 2008.
