Leading the race from the start in pole position, Mike took the chequered flag at the end of the 25 lap sprint race on Saturday afternoon, driving a strong race to claim victory by 18.4 seconds.
Mike said; "This is my first win in the GP2 Series and I am really happy. Everything was perfect from the start and I proved able to control the race throughout, even during the safety car period. The car was perfect too which allowed me to maintain a really fast pace. In addition to the personal accomplishment, I think today`s result will be a confidence boost for myself and my GP2 team, Trident Racing, for the rest of the season".
Nick Fry, Chief Executive Officer at the Honda Racing F1 Team said, “We are thrilled for Mike on the occasion of his win in the Monaco round of the GP2 series today. Following a difficult day yesterday, when third position was taken away from him on the final lap, he started from pole today and drove a commanding race from start to finish to take a well-deserved win.”
