News from the Audi DTM team

The Norisring is regarded as the "German Monaco" and definitely lived up to its reputation again this year. Numerous celebrities kept their fingers crossed for the Audi squad at its "home race". And Audi came up with several special attractions for the fans as well.

As early as on Saturday night, Audi offered fans an exciting evening of football: At the "Audi Heroes Cup", a football match in the so-called "Human Kicker", eight teams with prominent guests competed against each other. Hollywood actor Ralf Möller, for example, kicked the ball in the "paper tigers" team of journalists, while Cora Schumacher augmented the ITR football team. All of the ten Audi drivers enthralled the audience as true football acrobats as well. In the thrilling finale, the "Fortuna Abt" team with Timo Scheider, Christian Abt, Tom Kristensen, former ski jumper Sven Hannawald and other players prevailed against the ITR team in the penalty shootout.

At sundown, Helmut Zerlett and Band provided the appropriate musical setting at the Audi Team & Media Hospitality for the subsequent awards ceremony of the "Audi Heroes Cup" on the nearby terrace at the "Dutzendteich".

"German Pop Idol" contestant Rania Zefiri visited Timo Scheider at his garage in the pit lane. During the awards ceremony of the "Audi Heroes Cup" on Saturday evening, she spontaneously treated the audience to a rousing a capella rendition of her art.

At the same time, the Audi VIP Lounge featured a first-class musical atmosphere. The band LIVIN music family, which is famous for its soul-oriented style, as well as DJ Guido Perrey got the music going for the Audi Race Night.

In addition to Ralf Möller, Audi’s prominent guests at the Norisring included his fellow actors Francis Fulton-Smith and Diana Herold, TV presenter Gitta Saxx, fashion designer Sonja Kiefer, comedian Django Asül and ski jumpers Martin Schmitt, Sven Hannawald and Dieter Thoma.

Numerous board members and executives of Audi AG and the Group visited the Norisring on the occasion of Audi’s "home race": Prof DR Martin Winterkorn (Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Audi AG and the Executive Board of Volkswagen AG), Rupert Stadler (Chairman of the Executive Board of Audi AG), Michael Dick (Member of the Executive Board of Audi AG, Technical Development), Frank Dreves (Member of the Executive Board of Audi AG, Production), Prof DR Jochem Heizmann (Member of the Executive Board of Volkswagen AG, Group Production), Norbert Rank, Peter Mosch, Michael Christ (Works Council of Audi AG), Ingrid Sehars (Works Council TE) as well as Xaver Meier (former Works Council Chairman).

Yet again, the DTM offered a perfect setting for the Audi "Drive Away" event. At the Norisring, the participating dealers took possession of 30 Audi A4 Cabriolet cars in perfect open air weather on Saturday and Sunday.

Le Mans flair at the Dutzendteich: In its original condition, the #2 Audi R10 TDI with which Audi had celebrated its eighth victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans two weeks earlier, was on display at a special exhibition area for fans to marvel at. Besides autographs by eight-time winner Tom Kristensen, the Nuremberg fans had the chance to catch autographs from Allan McNish, who came to the Norisring on Sunday

Family support was given to Audi factory Markus Winkelhock: Joachim ("Jockel") Winkelhock, former Le Mans winner and DTM driver for many years, who is regarded as a true Norisring specialist, kept his fingers crossed for his 28-year-old nephew during qualifying at the Audi Sport Team Rosberg team garage in the pit lane. Marukus’ mother Martina also visited a race of her son for the first time since years.

Like every year, Dieter Basche visited the Audi squad at the Norisring. As chief engineer and subsequent head of motorsport, Basche was responsible for the development of the Audi V8 quattro that won the DTM in 1990 and 1991 and was successful at the Norisring as well.

Teeing off for a good cause: On Thursday, Tom Kristensen, Hans-Jürgen Abt and Harry Unflath participated in the traditional golf tournament on the "Habsberg" in Neumarkt. A donation from the proceeds of the golf game, which has been staged for the sixth time and sponsored by Dunlop, was made to the Dolphin Lagoon in Nuremberg.

The top management of the Feser Graf Group, one of Germany’s leading car trading groups and dealerships of six brands of the Volkwagen Group as well as their guests spent Friday evening at the Norisring. At the Audi VIP Lounge, a total of 650 guests experienced the unique racing flair at the beginning of the DTM’s only city circuit race.
