Five Chevrolet model lines now available with diesel engines

06 marzo 2007

In model year 2007, Chevrolet Europe will offer the option of a diesel engine on five model lines. Following the convincing debut of the diesel unit in the Captiva SUV and its cultivated premiere in the mid-size Epica sedan, buyers of a Chevrolet Lacetti/Nubira 4-door, 5-door or station wagon can now also opt for a diesel unit.

Chevrolet presents its comprehensive diesel range at the 77th Geneva Motor Show.

The new Chevrolet models will be available from March, although their exact release date will depend on the respective market. "We are now launching our diesel offensive on a broad front," said Chevrolet Europe's CEO, Wayne Brannon. "By the end of the decade, I expect that one out of every three Chevrolets sold in Europe will have a diesel engine under its hood."

Chevrolet will offer two versions of the modern 2.0-litre common-rail diesel: The 110 kW/150 hp unit will power the Chevrolet Captiva and the Chevrolet Epica, while the 89 kW/121 hp version will be available in the compact Chevrolet Lacetti hatchback, the Nubira sedan and the Nubira station wagon.

The powerful and economical four-cylinder diesel unit features a latest-generation Bosch common-rail system in which the injectors pump the diesel fuel into the combustion chambers at a pressure of up to 1,600 bar. Other technical characteristics of the SOHC unit are the aluminium cylinder head, four-valve technology and a balance shaft.

With the new diesel version, chances are very good that the Lacetti/Nubira model family will expand its winning streak. More than 170,000 Lacettis and Nubiras were sold throughout Europe up until December 2006 since their launch in 2003. And just how popular the modern diesel engine is among Chevrolet customers is revealed by the high diesel ratio for the Captiva: At 70 percent, the Captiva Diesel is the clear number one in the model mix.
