SEAT’S plant at Martorell today produced unit number six million. The actual car was a white Ibiza Ecomotive equipped with an 80hp 1.4 TDI engine, the most environmentally-friendly car (just 99 g/km of CO₂) that the Spanish brand has produced in its entire history.  A true technological achievement, ahead of even the most stringent carbon dioxide emissions standards to be implemented in the near future.  

Ever since it was officially opened in 1993 the Martorell plant has gradually improved the quality of its products. Initially designed for production of 1,500 units per day, it currently puts out 2,000 cars daily. In its first year of production only two models rolled off its lines – the Seat Ibiza and the Córdoba; now seven different models are manufactured on three different platforms, making Seat a pioneer within the Volkswagen Group.  

SEAT’s Vice-President for Production, Wolfram Thomas, congratulated employees on their team effort in making this milestone a reality; he also expressed his commitment to continue working hard to consolidate the Martorell plant as “a forward-looking factory in matters of technology, productive processes and environmental protection, one that stands out for the high commitment of its human team”.  

All these technological and production innovations have converted the plant’s facilities into a centre of growing attention both inside and outside the sector, as can be seen from the more than 10,000 domestic and international visitors it welcomes each year.  Currently the Martorell plant produces all models of the Seat range except for the Alhambra, which is built at the Volkswagen Group plant in Palmela in Portugal.
