Winter means hot deals on cool convertibles

17 dicembre 2007

Long winter nights, thoughts of Christmas and dark rainy days, mean the last thing on car buyers’ minds at the moment is splashing out on a convertible. However BCA (British Car Auctions) is advising that the winter months are a good time to buy a soft-top.

“The British love affair with convertibles definitely cools in the winter, but this makes it a great time to get a good deal,” said Tim Naylor, PR Manager, BCA. “Soft-top values tend to rise in line with the temperature, with average prices peaking at around £15,000 in July. Compare this with average values of just under £12,000 in November or around £11,000 by January and it’s clear that if motorists want to get the top down in summer, they should get their wallet out in winter.”

Whether it’s the perennial favourite of soft-top lovers, the Mazda MX-5, or the classic style and status of the Porsche 911, nothing beats the feeling of the wind through your hair out on the open road.  Convertibles can be practical like the Audi A4, Ford Focus Coupe Convertible or Vauxhall Astra Twin-Top, small like the Citroen C3 Pluriel or Mini Cooper S, or prestigious like the BMW M3, Jaguar XK8, or Mercedes Benz SL models. With something for everyone, BCA says it’s a great time to buy.

“Convertibles are always good sellers, but they tend be more seasonal than other models, making winter a prime time for bargain hunters” concluded Naylor. “When the prices and temperatures go sky high next summer, this winter’s savvy buyers will already be cruising in the sunshine.”
