Chevrolet Germany Supports ''Autogas Forest'' Environmental Initiative

The German LPG Association (DVFG) has just launched an initiative called "Autogas Forest". This initiative is aimed at raising awareness of the environmental advantages of vehicles powered by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in cooperation with different partners of the LPG market, including Chevrolet Germany. LPG or autogas is the leading alternative fuel globally.

The idea is to plant a tree for every vehicle sold running on LPG or retrofitted to run on LPG in Germany, creating new woodlands across the country that further contribute to the reduction of CO2.

Chevrolet Germany is the cooperation partner of the first reforestation project, as part of which 6,000 oak trees will be planted in the nature reserve of Mönchbruch, located close to Chevrolet Germany's headquarters in Rüsselsheim.

Chevrolet Germany was one of the first carmakers in Germany who systematically promoted the use of LPG. Today, one out of ten new Chevrolet vehicles sold is powered with LPG. All Chevrolet models can be retrofitted ex works with this low-emission propulsion system. The Matiz S 0.8 is a perfect example of how ecological and economical Chevrolet's LPG vehicles are: With CO2 emissions of only 111 g/km, it is one of the most environmentally friendly vehicles on the roads.

The "Autogas Forest" initiative benefits the environment twofold. One tree absorbs about 2.2 tons of CO2 a year, offsetting a large part of the emissions a vehicle produces in the same period. In addition, LPG generates about 15 to 20 percent less CO2 emissions than conventional fuels and emission components like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon and nitrogen oxide, which cause smog, among other things, are even reduced by up to 80 percent.
