Iveco floats a novel idea for its Daily 4x4

Iveco has completed an unusual journey using an experimental amphibious vehicle based on its Iveco Daily 4x4.

The Iveco Terramare has been used to successfully cross the Corsica Channel, which runs between Tuscany and Corsica, during a voyage which took almost 14 hours for the 75 nautical Miles (approximately 140 km).

The vehicle benefits from a series of modifications carried out by Milan-born engineer Maurizio Zanisi, which includes the fitment of an internally welded steel hull, a waterjet propulsion system and the mounting of supplementary fuel tanks with a total capacity of 300 litres.  This allowed sufficient range to guarantee a successful sea crossing without the need to refuel, with the Iveco Terramare capable of a top speed on the road of 100 km/h and 10 km/h in the water.

Accompanying Zanisi behind the wheel of this unique vehicle was Roberto Cibrario, Iveco Senior Vice President Special Vehicles.  Mr Cibrario heads up the specialist Iveco business unit which is a market leader for transport used in off-road applications, civil protection, fire-fighting and peace missions, with annual invoices exceeding €1 billion.  More than 70 per cent of the vehicles manufactured by Iveco’s Special Vehicle’s division are sold to countries outside Italy.
