Peugeot 207 Coupé Cabriolet commended in top German safety test

One of the biggest concerns of any cabriolet driver is the ability of their chosen vehicle to protect them in the unfortunate event of the vehicle rolling over in an accident.

Peugeot, ever since it introduced its first coupé cabriolet model back in 1934, has always ensured its owners have the best possible safety equipment and protection for all eventualities.

With a total of over 623,000 Peugeot coupé cabriolets sold since the launch of the first model in 1934, Peugeot’s expertise in this type of vehicle cannot be questioned.

To understand how safe modern cabriolet cars are, the Germany Automobile Club ADAC undertook to test three popular small cabriolet models in a simulated “Roll-Over” situation.

Of the three cars tested, it was the Peugeot 207 CC which came away as the highest scoring car, clearly demonstrating its superior strength and especially the high levels of standard safety equipment, such as the active “Roll-Over” protection bars.

This unique feature which is normally only found on larger more expensive cars ensures the vehicle occupants are protected in the event of a vehicle roll-over.

The “Roll-Over” protection bars are controlled by an electronic sensor, which measures the angle and speed of rotation of the vehicle. Once a roll-over situation is detected, the rear protection bars are extended automatically by 200 mm in 175 milliseconds (less than the blink of an eye). Combined with the strengthened windscreen pillars, the raised rear protection bars create a protective survival zone shielding the vehicle occupants.

Active safety is also a strength of the 207 CC with the standard fitment of ABS, EBFD (Electronic Brake Force Distribution) and EBA (Emergency Braking Assist) on all models. ESP is also fitted as standard on all GT versions. This is combined with a driver’s Smart front airbag, passenger Smart airbag, side/head airbags, pretensioning and force limiting front seatbelts and three point ISOFIX child Seat mountings on the front passenger seat.

Achieving the highest score in the ADAC “Roll-Over” test also backs up the five star Euro NCAP assessment score already awarded to the Peugeot 207 CC.

The Peugeot 207 CC is available in two trim levels, Sport and GT, and the range starts from just £15,195 on-the-road.
