Nissan to showcase electric vechicle capabilily at EVS22

23 ottobre 2006

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., will showcase its full range of electric vehicle capabilities, led by the X-TRAIL FCV 2005, at this year''s 22nd International Battery, Hybrid and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exposition or better known as EVS22. The EVS22 is the world''s largest international symposium dedicated to electric vehicles and technology, and is scheduled from October 23 through 28 at the Pacifico Yokohama.

Nissan has a long and proud history of research and development in electric vehicles that dates back to its first electric car, the Tama EV, built in 1947. Today, Nissan continues to explore various long-term sustainable technologies including the promotion of electric-powered vehicles, fuel cell vehicles and hybrid electric vehicles that would have a positive impact on future generations.

Nissan was the first automaker to release the world''s first lithium-ion battery powered vehicle - the Prairie Joy Electric Vehicle back in 1996. Since then, Nissan has been committed to the development of the core technologies i.e. the motor, battery and inverter components fundamental to efficiently power an electric vehicle. The challenge lies in developing advanced technological breakthroughs that could turn the electric vehicle into a viable and practical option for everyday consumers.

At the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show, Nissan offered the world a preview of the open possibilities through the reveal of the Pivo concept vehicle. The Pivo utilizes Nissan''s "drive-by-wire" technology and combines zero emissions with an efficient packaging.

In addition, Nissan has been working on non-core electric-powered technologies aimed at expanding the range of electric-powered solutions that can be incorporated into its current vehicle portfolio to benefit customers. One such innovative invention is the rear-wheel drive electric four-wheel drive system - the e.4WD system - that eliminates the need for a propeller shaft and delivers significant improvements with its compact and lightweight design.
