Strong Showing for David Martinez at Sebring Test

David Martinez completed a successful two day test with Forsythe Championship Racing at Sebring International Raceway in preparation for the last two rounds of the Champ Car World Series.

The Mexican driver surprised everybody with his pace as he was able to lap the 1.669 circuit within only a tenth of his teammate Paul Tracy despite not driving a Champ Car in almost a year, his quickest laptime was a 51.92s.

The Forsythe Team and Martinez used the track time to carry on an extensive test plan as they continue developing the setup of their cars for the street circuit at Surfers Paradise and the Mexico City permanent road course.  Rain was a factor during both days interrupting their sessions but the Monterrey native and his team still managed to complete 300 trouble free Miles at the historic track.

Martinez returns to the track on October 19 – 21 for the Lexmark Indy 300 at Surfers Paradise, Australia.

“The second day was even more productive than the first, the weather helped us a bit more, there were a few raindrops in the afternoon but we still managed to get all our Miles in.  We were able to go through our whole test program, we tried a lot of different things and at the end I put in a really good time.  I am really happy with how I adapted to the car, I haven’t had a lot of Seat time but I prepared myself all year and the hard work and dedication is definitely paying off now.  I’m very happy that I kept working hard all year and never gave up; it’s all coming together now.  I think this first test was excellent, now it’s time to concentrate on the next two races.”

Chief Engineer

“David had a really good test; he did everything we needed from him. We learned a lot of things that will help us in Surfers and Mexico City, he definitely contributed to our understanding of this new DP01.  We did 300 Miles and that’s not easy at Sebring, especially for a guy who’s been out of the car the whole year and he set his fastest lap on his second to last run, he really did a good job today.”
