David Martinez Continues to Impress with a Top Ten Qualifying Effort in Mexico

David Martinez continued capturing the attention and support of the Mexican fans today by qualifying in the top ten again for the Gran Premio Tecate in only his third Champ Car start.  While still learning to use the Red Bridgestone alternate soft tires en 25 year old rookie lapped the circuit with a time of 1m24.888s.  He didn’t have the chance to improve due to a red flag that came out just as he started his third lap, which is usually he quickest.

Martinezand the Forsythe Team spent most of the day working on the setup of their #/INDECK/Axtel/Tecate Champ Car for qualifying, but also managed to turn quick laps with old tires which will prove to be very beneficial during the race.  Sunday’s race will be the last of the 2007 Champ Car World Series, and the first in which Martinez will carry the Axtel and Tecate colors on his car.

“It was another good day for us.  The car has been good all weekend and I feel very comfortable driving it, I’ve been pushing every single lap and we just keep picking up speed every time.  I’m happy with my qualifying result because I am very close to my teammate Paul Tracy who is a great driver, a Champion and a winner of this race.  I’m pretty sure we could’ve picked up some more positions if we had another lap but the red flag came out right as we were starting it and we never had the chance to improve.  The Forsythe Team has done a great job so far, I’m really enjoying working with them we definitely have very strong chemistry.

I can’t wait till tomorrow, racing in front of your country men is a great feeling, I am going to be very proud tomorrow when I give them and also my new sponsors Axtel and Tecate a great result.”
