Team Australia takes out Awards at Champ Car Banquet

Team Australia drivers Will Power and Simon Pagenaud have both taken out significant awards at the annual Champ Car End of Season Banquet in Indianapolis.

Power received the Performance Friction Pass of the Year Award. The Australian driver’s winning pass was on his own Team Australia team-mate Simon Pagenaud and came during the race in Mont-Tremblant in Canada.

Power won two races in Las Vegas and Toronto and five pole positions this season on his way to fourth in this year’s Champ Car World Series points standings.

Pagenaud received the prestigious Bosch Most Improved Driver Award, an especially significant honour as the Frenchman was chosen by his peers as the recipient. Pagenaud, who was last year’s Atlantic champion, finished eighth in the final point standings with sixth top five finishes along the way.

Sebastien Bourdais received his fourth-consecutive Vanderbilt Cup for winning this year’s title, along with the Hole in the Wall Camps Lap Leader Award and the Bridgestone Passion for Excellence Award.

Robert Doornbos won both the BBS Hard Charger and Roshfrans Rookie of the Year Awards. Justin Wilson received his second-straight Greg Moore Legacy Award and PKV Racing was recognised as the the overall winner of the Sherwin Williams “It’s All in the Finish” Award, a crown Team Australia won last season.
