Race Retro 2009 marvels at fifty years of Racing Minis

09 gennaio 2009

Race Retro 2009, the international historic motorsport show, will marvel the history of the racing Mini as the marquee celebrates its fiftieth anniversary. Held at Stoneleigh Park from 13th to 15th March, Race Retro will feature the ex-works Mini that raced to victory in the 1967 Monte Carlo Rally as well as the victorious driver Rauno Aaltonen and a superb collection of some of the most significant ex-works cars in Mini history on display in the Rally Hall.

The Mini LBL 6D is being shown courtesy of the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon and will be a key model in its Mini anniversary celebrations in 2009 which includes a Mini Festival and two weeks dedicated to Mini themed events.

Although the static display will be impressive, nothing can beat these famous Minis in action so a special treat for rallying enthusiasts will be Rauno Aaltonen in spirited attack mode driving his original 1964 Monte Carlo Rally Mini Cooper S. Rauno will also strap himself into the thundering 420 bhp Aston Martin V8GT Rally car for a few swift passes over the Race Retro live action Rally Stage tarmac.

The Mini was unquestionably the model that really brought the opportunity of competing in motorsport to many first timers whilst at the same time bursting onto the world stage with giant killing performances in the hands of stars of international race tracks and rally roads. Many driver reputations were built on success at the wheel of the Mini Cooper S and that tradition is still going strong with many successful junior racers driving classic Minis.

And as an extra tribute to the Mini, the organisers have made ticket prices Mini too. A one day ticket in advance has been reduced by £5 to just £20 for the Friday and £15 for Saturday or Sunday. One the door prices are now £25 for Friday and £20 for Saturday or Sunday. Children are now free at the weekend and cost just £5 for Friday and parking is now free throughout the show.

Race Retro 2009 will be held from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th March.
