Blue light success for Volkswagen commercial vehicles

The London Fire Brigade has taken delivery of seven Volkswagen Transporters which have been converted to operate as part of the brigade’s fire investigation unit.

The Transporters successfully met all the brigade’s specifications and requirements and were ordered with Volkswagen’s five-cylinder 2.5-litre 130 PS TDI engine and Tiptronic automatic transmission, and supplied by AssetCo PLC.

One of the Volkswagen Transporter vans will be used as the fire investigation unit’s dog van and is fitted with a twin dog cage, while the others are equipped with a bespoke racking system to carry power tools, warning signs, protective equipment and a portable generator.

Other work carried out on the vans included fitting a siren and blue light system, radio communication equipment, and adding windows in the two side loading doors.

The London Fire Brigade joins a number of other ‘blue light’ clients for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, which include the Metropolitan Police Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service.

‘To be able to meet the strict requirements of the London Fire Brigade underlines the quality and durability of the Volkswagen Transporter, our best-selling van in the UK and Europe,’ said Chris Blue, National Fleet and Used Vehicle Manager for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.
