One of the world’s largest non-operated equipment rental companies, A-Plant, has just taken delivery of 38 new Mitsubishi L200 pick-ups, which will be used to transport plant, tools, construction equipment, traffic signals and other on-hire items all over the country.

Operating nearly 1,600 vehicles in the UK, A-Plant has an ongoing programme of renewal and has decided that a mixture of 4Work single and double-cab L200s will replace its existing fleet of pick-ups.

After assessing models from other manufacturers, the company had no hesitation in choosing the Mitsubishi, as it was one of only two pick-ups in the market that could be fitted with a digital tachograph.

In comparison tests, the L200 shone in other areas too. A-Plant noted that its towing and load-carrying capacity makes it ideal for delivering and collecting all sorts of equipment to and from construction sites, road works and a vast range of other locations. In addition, the company favoured the Mitsubishi’s four-wheel-drive capability, which lets it traverse terrain not normally accessible to many other vehicles.

Shaun Winstanley, Head of Transport Services for A-Plant, was impressed with the suitability of the L200:

 “After comparing others in its class, Mitsubishi’s L200 came out on top and was therefore the natural choice to replace our fleet pick-ups. We need a vehicle which is versatile enough to tow trailers loaded with small plant and to carry tools and equipment to areas which may be difficult to reach for vehicles without four-wheel drive – plus it is imperative that we are able to install a digital tachograph – and the L200 ticks all these boxes.”

A-Plant was also pleased with the way the L200 drives compared to other pick-ups and importantly, that it complies with the company’s green policy for commercial vehicles, all its cars having to meet a required standard of CO₂ output.

Having operated the previous model L200s in the past, A-Plant are no strangers to Mitsubishi and therefore are familiar with the reliability and value for money that its vehicles represent.

It is expected that if this latest batch of L200s fulfils the needs of the company as well as predicted, orders for more Mitsubishi vehicles will follow during 2008.
