News from the Audi DTM team

At the DTM’s Spanish round Audi was a central meeting place in the paddock: the footballers of FC Barcelona, prominent German actors, many guests of Audi Spain as well as two leading managers of the Volkswagen Group experienced the brand’s showing at the Circuit de Catalunya.

The football stars of FC Barcelona are turning into serious DTM fans: after their first visit last year, the players of the 18-time Spanish champion came to the Circuit de Catalunya this year again. On Thursday before the race they received their new Audi "company cars". Defending champion Mattias Ekström and Le Mans record winner Tom Kristensen drove the footballers around the circuit in the 470-hp Audi A4 DTM racing taxi. Martin Tomczyk as a chauffeur demonstrated the sportiness of an Audi R8 converted into a racing taxi.

At the Barcelona paddock a short film could have easily been shot: with sisters Anja and Gerit Kling as well as Simon Licht ("Der Baader Meinhof Komplex") at the venue, as many as three experienced and highly popular actors came to visit Audi.

Audi Spain again used the DTM as a marketing platform this year. 500 guests experienced the race weekend at Audi’s VIP Lounge at Barcelona. During the Audi driving experience at a blocked section of the circuit, interested guests had the opportunity to get to know the sportiest aspects of the Audi models A5, RS 6 and R8. In addition, the members of the Audi TT Club Spain as well as the Club Audi Sport Iberica exclusively drove their vehicles around the race track.

María de Villota visibly enjoyed a privileged weekend: the Spanish racer, who had been involved in preliminary promotional activities, had the chance to pilot as many as two Audi racing taxis on her home ground. On Friday, at the 20-minute test of an Audi A4 DTM, she experienced massive DTM power before chauffeuring guests around the Circuit de Catalunya in an Audi R8. The likable South-European racer summed up her experience like this: "The Audi A4 is a fantastic racing car – and the R8 is huge fun as well!"

Two Board Members from the Volkswagen Group visited Audi at the DTM at Barcelona. Erich Schmitt, Chairman of the Board of Management of Seat S.A., as well as Jan-Henrik Lafrentz, who is responsible for Finance and Organisation of Seat S.A., experienced the DTM race on the Iberian peninsula.

Special congratulations on "coming of age" were extended to Audi Sport Team Phoenix’s youngest team member by Alexandre Prémat and Oliver Jarvis. Christoph Wagner, who is enrolled in an apprenticeship and works on Jarvis’s car as a mechanic, received a cake on his 18th birthday at Barcelona on 19 September, which was presented by the two Audi factory drivers – as is customary in motorsport – smack in the face ... a much more pleasant experience was the main birthday gift: a ride in the racing taxi.
