Audi drivers sporty for worthy cause

The two Audi factory drivers Mike Rockenfeller and Tom Kristensen participated in charitable sport events before the DTM away race in the Netherlands (live from 1:45 p.m. on "Das Erste" ARD on Sunday).

Jumbo Schreiner numbers among the Audi guests visiting the North Sea coast. The television actor and author ("Wunderwelt Wissen", "Galileo") has a soft spot for fast cars and experiences the DTM once again on location.

Double dose of sport for a good cause: Mike Rockenfeller was a squad member of the "Nazionale Piloti" motorsport team at the traditional benefit football match held before the German Grand Prix, as were former and current Formula 1 drivers. The stars raised 25,000 Euro for needy children in the fight with the "biggAllstars" celebrity team. Tom Kristensen accepted an invitation from Prince Albert of Monaco to attend a VIP cycle race to mark the start of the "Tour de France". Together with Max Biaggi, Alain Prost and cycling stars like Eddy Merckx the Dane spooled off his laps on a part of the Monaco Formula 1 course for the benefit of the foundation "Star Team for Children" which supports children projects throughout the world.

Alexandre Prémat’s Audi A4 DTM appears in a new guise. The previous white primary color of the year old car fielded by Audi Sport Team Phoenix is replaced by silver from the fourth DTM race at Zandvoort onwards. The Audi Bank remains as partner on the Frenchman’s powerful 460 hp race car.

Three of the nine Audi factory drivers in the DTM celebrated their birthdays in the fortnight before Zandvoort: Tom Kristensen was 42-years old on July 7, Katherine Legge celebrated her 29th birthday last Sunday and Mattias Ekström is 31-years old since Tuesday.

Christian Abt also had reason to celebrate: The former Audi factory driver, who is currently leading the ADAC GT Masters with a Audi R8 LMS and who regularly drives the Audi A4 DTM Race Taxi at the DTM events, married his long standing partner Sandra last weekend.

Fans of the Audi brand do not only get the chance to enjoy that motorsport feeling in the Netherlands this weekend. To mark the brand’s 100th anniversary the three former DTM drivers and current Audi factory drivers Lucas Luhr, Allan McNish and Marco Werner will be at the wheel of various Audi race cars on July 18 at the Donauring race in Ingolstadt. The brand offers the public a broad program highlighting its race and rally history which includes demonstration runs by the Auto Union Type A from 1934 up to the current Audi R15 TDI.
