Nelson Piquet Jr signs '08 Renault race deal

05 agosto 2007

Nelson Piquet Jr has now signed a contract to debut for the Renault team in 2008, according to a Brazilian sports newspaper.

The Rio de Janeiro-based 'Lance' reported on Saturday that the Enstone based team's 22-year-old current test driver, the son of the triple world champion of the same name, will replace Giancarlo Fisichella at the end of the current season.

The French squad's boss Flavio Briatore said this weekend that he would decide the 2008 lineup probably by the Italian grand prix next month.

Asked specifically about Rome-born veteran Fisichella, he said: "I never bet on anything in my life, so I'm not betting about Fisichella. I don't know."
