Heidfeld 'relaxed' about future at BMW

01 agosto 2008

No-one at BMW-Sauber will talk about the team's driver lineup for 2009, but Nick Heidfeld in Hungary said he is feeling "relaxed" about his future.

The 31-year-old German driver struggled to match teammate Robert Kubica's pace in the first half of the season, but a few good performances recently calmed speculation he might be replaced.

In fact, Heidfeld has scored more points - 21, compared with championship leader Lewis Hamilton and Felipe Massa's 20 apiece - in the last four races than any other driver on the grid.

It is well-known that Heidfeld and Kubica have been specifically told by team boss Mario Theissen to not discuss their contractual situations with the press.

But when asked if he is feeling relaxed about his future in Budapest, Heidfeld said: "Yes. I am now.

"I had some problems, but we've turned things around and I am quite happy with how it is going so far," he is quoted as saying by metro.co.uk.

Heidfeld said the support of the Hinwil-based team and its engineers helped him to turn around his recent struggles with the 2008 car.

"That has helped me, to know they stand behind me because I have worked hard with the engineers to overcome the problems and it has worked," he explained.
