Valencia 'problems' being solved - Gracia

17 agosto 2008

The recent F3 and GT races held on the new Valencia street circuit identified minor problems that "are now being solved" ahead of the inaugural grand prix in the Spanish port city in ten days.

That was the information of Spanish motor federation president Carlos Gracia, as he made his final inspection of the venue prior to the European grand prix between August 22-24.

He told the newspaper Diario AS that the recent trial race weekend identified "certain technical problems" with the circuit that are being addressed.

"Realistically, there are problems with such a new circuit but the same would be so even for a permanent facility," Gracia said.

"The important thing is that there was the will to address the problems and we knew how to do it," he added.

Gracia acknowledged that one of the problems was with newly-laid asphalt, but it will also be addressed prior to the first formula one action next Friday.

Another Spanish racing official said F1 teams will begin fitting out their garages in the pitlane on Sunday, before the circuit is closed to the public on Monday.

A race-day crowd of 100,000 is expected.
