Bruno Senna thinks 2009 F1 debut likely

05 settembre 2008

Bruno Senna is still giving little away about a looming future in formula one, but the Brazilian seems confident he can soon be part of the exclusive club.

The 24-year-old GP2 driver told the German news source Der Spiegel that his debut in 2009 is likely.

"The possibility is not very low, but there is no deal signed so far. I'm talking to different people," said Senna, whose famous late uncle Ayrton Senna won three world championships.

Senna's links with Toro Rosso, the team co-owned by Gerhard Berger, are obvious, given the Austrian's promise to Senna's mother Viviane - Ayrton Senna's sister - a few years ago.

"She wanted me to see that he was making the right moves, and I decided to help," Berger, Ayrton's former McLaren teammate and friend, said.

"He reminds me of Ayrton. He's very switched on, very quick-thinking."

Even for a STR seat, however, Senna will have to fight. The Faenza based team is giving candidates Sebastien Buemi and Takuma Sato a test at Jerez later this month.

Berger concedes that the decision about 2009 is not his alone.

"I run a team in partnership with Red Bull, and shouldn't mix personal things with business," he said.
