BMW's Theissen plays down Kubica rift

14 settembre 2008

BMW-Sauber boss Mario Theissen has played down suggestions of a team rift with Polish race driver Robert Kubica.

Kubica, 23, has on a few occasions recently mused negatively about the Hinwil based squad, but it seems the factions have now sat down for clear-the-air talks.

"It was a storm in a teacup," Theissen told the German news agency SID. "We have discussed things with Robert in detail.

"There is no doubt we are all pulling in the same direction," the German added.

Despite rumours that Kubica has re-signed for 2009, there is still a lot of uncertainty about BMW's driver plans, with Nick Heidfeld's future not clear, and strong speculation linking Fernando Alonso with the team.

"We are the strongest team that still has a Seat open for 2009," Theissen acknowledges. "But we have not made any decisions yet."

When asked if BMW is interested in Alonso, he answered: "We are always interested in fast drivers."
