Bernie, Schu, on Swiss rich list

06 dicembre 2006

Two high-profile formula one personalities have appeared on the latest annual ranking of Switzerland's 300 richest people.

The Swiss business fortnightly 'Bilan' proclaimed Ikea founder Ingvar Kamprad as the country's wealthiest of all, with a fortune of about (US)$21.5 billion.

Retired seven time world champion Michael Schumacher, however - who lives in picturesque Vufflens-le-Chateau, in the canton of Vaud - also qualified for the list with his reported $800m fortune.

So too did F1's 75-year-old supremo and British billionaire Bernie Ecclestone, according to Bilan, despite being based in Chelsea.

According to the British broadsheet The Observer, Ecclestone owns a house in the upmarket German speaking Swiss village Gstaad.

The Daily Mail, meanwhile, claims that Ecclestone, F1's chief executive, is worth $3.36bn.

Referring to his wealth, Bernie said recently: "I doubt if any successful business person works for money.  For most people who are reasonably successful it's just a way of keeping score."
