Qi-Meritus.Mahara readies for second round of GP2 Asia

11 febbraio 2008

Qi-Meritus.Mahara having scored ten points in the inaugural round of the new GP2 Asia series now ranks third overall and is ready to take to the track for the second race of the season at Sentul, Indonesia.

Both drivers Luca Filippi and Hiroki Yoshimoto traveled back from their homes in Italy and Japan respectively and stopped over in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday prior to getting acclimatized to the jet lag and climate in Bali on their way to Sentul (Indonesia).

Team Qi-Meritus.Mahara has organized a press conference at the track where Meritus founder and president Peter Thompson, managing director and Team manager Firhat Mokhzani, Qi's group director, product development Joachim Steffen and the executive director Pathman Senathirajah were present.

Talking about the next race in Indonesia, Luca Filippi the recently appointed Honda Formula One test driver said: "I am very excited to head for the next venue in Sentul, Indonesia. I do not know the track. Somewhere, for me it was very disappointing to have encountered mechanical failure in Dubai just when it looked like I was going to get a podium finish. I will go all out to be among the top three in the next four legs of the racing season, starting with this race. Now we know what to expect. The performance is solid and we can only build on a positive note. Qi-Meritus.Mahara can only improve and get better and better every race. "

Hiroki Yoshimoto, who finished fifth in both races in Dubai commented: "The team has done really well putting together a credible outfit which can challenge for honors. While we didn't perform as well as we wanted in Dubai, we did prove we have what it takes since we are now third in the overall standings. I'm sure, given time, we can improve more so even though I do not know this circuit yet. We need to take a good look walking around the track. But all teams are in the same position. In my first year of GP2 all tracks were new. So it does not worry me."

Peter Thompson, president and team founder Qi-Meritus.Mahara: "We have started from nothing with no experience at Dubai. Our goal is to continue building up positive work to build on our third place in the championship. Even if the drivers are new to the track, the team knows the track in Indonesia and Sentul is very close to being a home track for the team. Qi-Meritus.Mahara has progressed very well since Dubai and the team is now working together very well. This bodes indeed well for the next race".
