Bruno Senna takes pole in Silverstone

04 luglio 2008

Bruno Senna has claimed his second pole in a row this afternoon in Silverstone, taking the top spot in qualifying ahead of Romain Grosjean and Andreas Zuber.

The  Brazilian  topped the timesheets with a lap of 1:26.912, one tenth ahead of the Frenchman who set up a repeat front row from the last event in Magny-Cours, although this time Senna took pole without incident as he hoped after his dramatic crash at the French circuit.

All of the drivers were immediately on track when the green light showed at the end of the pitlane after this morning's free practice session, which saw almost all of the fastest lap set on their first set of tyres: this was repeated in qualifying, when a fierce early fight set most of the best times of the  day.

Roldan  Rodriguez,  Adrian  Valles  and  Mike  Conway  all  took  a  turn  at  the  top  of  the timesheets before Grosjean headed teammate Luca Filippi at the top before they made their way back to the pits for their stops. Senna had other plans however, and stayed out to take advantage of the clear track: the move paid  off  in  spades  as  he  claimed  tomorrow's  pole  before  returning  to  the  pits,  along  with countryman Lucas di Grassi.

Despite a strong push in the second half of the session only Zuber and Giorgio Pantano could improve their times at the top of the timesheet. Behind the top three tomorrow will be di Grassi, Pantano, Filippi, Andy Soucek and Mike Conway, although  there  was  little  to  separate  them:  the  top  twelve  drivers  were  covered  by  just  one second, with a further second covering the first 22 drivers. With change predicted in the weather patterns tomorrow we are likely to have a hugely entertaining first race at the British circuit.
