Qualifying for the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 took place today at Kansas Speedway with the Conquest Racing pair of Jaime Camara, who was taking part in his first IndyCar Series qualifying session, and Enrique Bernoldi taking the 19th and 25th spots respectively on tomorrow’s starting grid.

Camara (#34 Sangari Dallara/Honda/Firestone) took advantage of two practice sessions earlier in the day to get acquainted with his new team and engineer before tackling qualifying later in the afternoon. The new Conquest rookie was the second driver to take to the track and immediately moved ahead of Newman/Haas/Lanigan driver Justin Wilson. By the time his teammate Bernoldi (#36 Sangari Dallara/Honda/Firestone), who was 25th in line, took to the track Camara had been relegated to 19th. Bernoldi, who will be participating in only his second oval race, was second to last to qualify. His average speed of 208.422 placed him 25th.

“I’m really happy with my first IndyCar Series qualifying. We made some progress throughout the day and the car was pretty good. I’m happy with the balance we have on the car and now we are going to focus on the race and prepare a good race car for tomorrow. We can start in a good position and have a really good race tomorrow. I’m looking forward to it because it will be special to me because it will be my first Indycar Series race.”

“I was much more comfortable today than at Homestead . Unfortunately, we’re not where we wanted to be in qualifying. I was flat out all the way through and couldn’t find more speed. But it will be a long race and I was able to run well in traffic during practice this morning, so that should help me for the race tomorrow. Once again, I want to bring the car home and push as hard as I can to finish in the best position possible.”

Eric Bachelart, Conquest Racing owner
“Jaime has done a good job today, especially if you consider that it was his first day in the car. He gives good feedback and we have excellent communication together. We are looking at what happened with Enrique in qualifying. He was comfortable in the car but we had no speed. So far we have no explanation and we are looking to come up with some conclusion. He’s seventh in points and it’s important that we have a good race with him tomorrow.”
