Sarah Fisher tops 224; will attempt to qualitfy Sunday

11 maggio 2008

After a brief delay for the morning warm-up to begin, Sarah Fisher and SFR hit the track during session two for practice in preparation for the Peak Motor Oil Pole Award presented by AutoZone.  Fisher quickly wheeled a 224.009 Miles per hour on Lap 5 of her 16 morning laps.  Despite her speed, the team chose not to attempt a qualifications run during the last hour of qualifications.

“We kind of lost ourselves in the heat today,” said Fisher, whose best start at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is ninth and came in 2002 with a speed of 229.439 mph, the best for a female.  “I think we learned from our changes today and we can keep that in our notebooks for the future.  Today wasn’t our day to qualify, but we didn’t expect it to be.”

The No. 67 pilot was quick to comment that she was happy with her car, running consist laps under sunny skies at the Brickyard.  Her morning session delivered her fastest speed of the month up from 221.978 mph from Fast Friday.  After spending the better part of the afternoon in the garage making final adjustments to the car, the SFR crew rolled back out onto the track around 3:30 p.m.  She would add 15 more laps to the books for a total of 31 total practice laps for the day.

During afternoon practice, the weather had changed and their morning set-up and struggled to match her morning time.  She would top just 223.405 mph during her final stint before jumping for the car and calling it a day.

Fisher will be the 14th driver to attempt to qualify for her seventh Indianapolis 500 on the second day of qualifications.  Positions 12 through 22 will be decided tomorrow by 6:00 p.m.

Target Chip Ganassi Racing took the Peak Motor Oil Pole Award presented by AutoZone with Scott Dixon to lead the field on race day and teammate Dan Wheldon to start to his right in position two.

Fisher returns to the track tomorrow morning from 10:15-11:15 a.m. for IndyCar Series practice with qualifications beginning at 12:00 p.m.
