Earlier in the day, Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR) announced an associate sponsorship deal with IUPUI before taking to the track in the late afternoon for just 30 minutes of track time after sitting idle since Saturday’s Pole Day.  Fisher made just 14 trips around the famed oval before rain returned to end the day before the clock hit 6:00 p.m.

“The weather is disappointing, but what can you do about the weather,” said Fisher, whose best speed of the month was 224.009 Miles per hour.  “You have to plan around the weather as best you can.  The Indy 500 is certainly about those who can alter their plans and change for adverse conditions.  If anything, it’s educating us for race day.”

Fisher wasn’t quick to complain about the lack of track time either.

“I come from a sprint car background and if you don’t get in done in four laps, then you won’t,” said Fisher.  “This rain has given us more time to work on the car and perfect things that we may or may not have had time to do coming into the month of May.  Whether or not it’s raining, we are still taking advantage of time and we’re still working towards making the car faster and faster every day; whether it’s on the track or in the garage.”

Before the start of practice, Fisher announced she had signed IUPUI in an associate sponsorship role, a deal she feels was generated by the publicity that she was still looking for partners for the month.

“The publicity that we have received from the folks who are supporting our team has been tremendous and that has attracted IUPUI and Hartman Oil,” said Fisher.  “Both of those associates probably wouldn’t have been on board had they not have known we were having trouble.  The more exposure we are able to get the more we are able to tell our story.”

The month of May has been far from a cake walk for Fisher but she promises she’s perfecting multitasking.

“The month so far has been a lot more work than I thought it was going to be, said Fisher.  “I thought once I got here the checks would be cleared, wires deposited and then all I would have to do was focus 110% on race car driving.  But with the situation we are in, I’ve had to spend a lot more time on team ownership so the rain really hasn’t bother me in that sense but it has from a driver perspective.  So essentially, it’s the devil on one and the angel on the other.  But, I’m multitasking and I think by the end of the month, I’ll have it down to an art.”

Practice is scheduled to resume tomorrow afternoon from 12:00-6:00 p.m.  Fisher will participate in a “Click it or Ticket” press conference on the Coke stage at 10:00 a.m.
