Will Power looks to bounce back in Nashville after no luck in the Glen

Will Power is looking to bounce back from a weekend of great speed but not luck in the Camping World Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, New York last weekend.

Power will be back in action this weekend in the Firestone Indy 200 at Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tennessee, reverting back to an oval set-up on the #8 Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia car for the 1.333-mile oval.

Power was one of the quickest in the field across the weekend in Watkins Glen, but a spin in qualifying had him starting from 12th.

However, with the help of his crew and some shrewd race strategy, he quickly moved into the top-10 and was running in ninth place prior to his first pit stop on lap 20.

As the race unfolded during the second stint, the 27-year-old Australian found himself in fifth place with a fast car, getting good mileage and just one pit stop to go.

As the laps wound down toward his second, and what should have been his final stop, Power began to experience a loss of voltage.

But, the problem appeared to disappear, allowing Power to make his second stop on schedule on lap 40. Power rejoined the competition still in fifth, when suddenly the voltage problems re-emerged.

Over the course of the next 20 laps Power was forced to pit six more times to changed, and then recharge, his battery, dropping him into 15th place where he remained until the finish.

Ryan Hunter-Reay won the Camping World Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International ahead of Darren Manning and Tony Kanaan.

WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY …

Will Power: #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone

“The Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia guys did a great job the entire weekend at Watkins Glen and we had a pretty good strategy going there,” said Power.

“Unfortunately I ran out of electrical power, something kept draining the power and I had to keep coming into the pits to charge the battery, which was really unfortunate.

“We are going to have good weekends. I am confident of that. This just wasn’t one of them.

“Now we look ahead to Nashville. It’s back to oval racing but we have been getting stronger and stronger so I think we can run well and come away with a good result.”

Craig Gore: Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia

“Will has shown that he is one of the quickest drivers out there on the road and street courses, so it’s very unfortunate that the Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia car did not get the result it deserved,” said Gore.

“Now we revert back to oval set-up for Nashville this weekend. Will is growing in confidence with every race on the ovals so I’m sure another strong top 10 result is a distinct possibility this weekend.”
