Will Power has day ruined by suspension failure in Edmonton

27 luglio 2008

Will Power has had any chance of victory in the Rexall Edmonton Indy ruined by suspension failure at the Edmonton City Centre Airport circuit in Edmonton, Canada today.

Power qualified fifth but on lap six pitted after reporting steering troubles. Two laps later he was forced to bring his #8 Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia car into the pits for lengthy repairs as a result of a broken bolt in the front suspension.

Power re-entered the race many laps down in an attempt to gain more championship points and was eventually classified in 22nd position.

The Australian was able to prove his pace once back on track, scoring the fastest lap of the race on lap 67.

Scott Dixon won the Rexall Edmonton Indy today from Helio Castroneves and Justin Wilson.

Power is back in action on August 9 in the Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky.

WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY …

Will Power: #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone

“I am just really disappointed,” said Power.

“The Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia car was really quick, we were getting good fuel mileage and then there was a mechanical failure.

“The KVRT crew did a great job getting me back in the race, but being so many laps behind we were really in it to try and get as many points as possible.”

Craig Gore: Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia

“It’s really unfortunate that Will had the failure when everything was looking so good,” said Gore.

“We will bounce back next week, but it’s a shame that luck went against the Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia car because Edmonton was a race we were looking forward to all season.

“The Aussie Vineyards crew did a good job fixing the suspension and getting Will back out there. We’ve had our share of bad luck this season so hopefully now some good luck comes our way in the final part of the season.”
