Buddy Rice qualifies in 18th on time charts; Milka Duno finishes 23rd

30 agosto 2008

On Saturday, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s Buddy Rice and Milka Duno took part in qualifying for Sunday’s Detroit Grand Prix presented by Firestone, and when the sessions were finished, they found themselves in 18th and 23rd positions, respectively.

The day began with a quick 30-minute practice session for the drivers.  In the first group, Duno turned 14 laps with a best time of 1:19.0112.  Rice followed in the second group with 14 laps as well.  His best time was 1:15.6014.

When qualifying began, Duno was a part of the first group in round one.  In the 20-minute session, she was clocked around the circuit 10 times, and her best lap was a 1:19.0865.  With that, she’ll start the race in 23rd.

Rice went out in the second group, and in nine circuits, he was able to better his best in practice with a 1:15.0969 — about a half a second improvement.  His effort will find him lining up 18th for the race.

The only remaining track time for this weekend before the main event will take place on Sunday morning at 10:15 ET when the drivers will have a final 30-minute warm-up session.  This can be seen live via streaming video on indycar.com.

The race can be seen live in HD later in the afternoon at 3:30 ET on ABC.

QUOTES

#15 DREYER & REINBOLD RACING Honda Dallara Driver Buddy Rice

"We’re slowly making progress.  We just need to keep working on it.  There’s obviously been some changes since last year with everything.  We didn’t qualify where we wanted to, but I think we’ll be able to have a good race.  We’ll just have to work on our fuel strategy, which, this will probably be another fuel race.  We’ve done well when it seems to come down to that.”

#23 CITGO/DREYER & REINBOLD RACING Honda Dallara Driver Milka Duno

"We are improving with every practice, and the car was better today.  Since this is my first time at Belle Isle, it is tougher when I have to learn the track while preparing for the race weekend."
