Road America: Variety is the spice of life for Brabs

Just as he did at Sebring and Road America earlier this year, David Brabham will drive in his fourth different American Le Mans Series class when the Series travels to Mosport International Raceway next week for the Mobil 1 presents Grand Prix of Mosport.

Brabham is set to make his 70th start, which would place him second in Series history behind former Panoz factory mate Johnny O'Connell.

He'll tackle Mosport with Stefan Johansson in Highcroft Racing's Acura ARX. The two sit third in LMP2 championship with three podium finishes and two in the last three events. Aside from Andretti Green Racing's class win at Sebring, Highcroft has been the highlight for the Acura program in its first season of American Le Mans Series competition.

"We could have had a crystal ball and seen the results so far, we would have been very pleased," said Brabham, the only driver in Series history to win in three different classes.

Brabham and Stefan Johansson have finished on the LMP2 podium twice in the last three Series races and stand third in the class championship.

"Surprised wouldn't be the right word because we have a lot of talented people. I've been fortunate to be able to drive such a variety of cars. It helps to bring in a lot of that experience to Highcroft as we continue to grow and build."

Brabham's Mosport résumé includes three podium finishes in four starts: second in the Panoz prototype in 1999 and 2001 along with a third-place GTS finish for Prodrive and its Ferrari 550 in 2003. Brabham didn't get in last year's race in the works Panoz Esperante GTLM, but he turned more than enough laps in testing and practice to get a feel for driving the track in a GT2 entry.

"The driving approach for all four cars really is not much different. You still jump in the car and go," said the reigning Le Mans GT1 winner with Aston Martin Racing. "Now from a technical point of view, it's four different ways to drive the car. I enjoy driving the prototypes more. They go fast; it's simple as that. But the Acura is probably the best car I have ever driven in the American Le Mans Series and with the level of people we have, our first win could come at Mosport."

The next round of the American Le Mans Series is the Mobil 1 presents Grand Prix of Mosport from Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada. The race will start at 3 p.m. ET on Sunday, August 26 and will be broadcast live on SPEED.
