Jon Wood set to reach Milestone IN New Hampshire

13 settembre 2007

Of all the numbers that surround Jon Wood’s racing career, the one that’s least important for the driver of the No. 21 Bush’s Baked Beans/Bubba Burgers Ford is career earnings. Ask the driver from Wood Brothers/JTG Racing what’s the most-important number in his career, and he’ll tell you that his two wins is more-significant number than $4 million.

Wood should surpass the $4 million mark in career NASCAR earnings during Saturday’s New Hampshire 200 at the New Hampshire International Speedway. He goes into his fifth Craftsman Truck Series race of the year with combine winnings of $3,993,165. He only needs $6,835 to move past the $4 million mark.

More important to Wood, however, is getting the No. 21 Ford F-150 in Victory Lane. Both of his NASCAR victories have come in a truck, and he wants to add to that total. In four starts this year, he already has three Top-15 finishes.

New Hampshire’s flat, one-mile layout presents a challenge to the race team. While the No. 21 Bush’s Baked Beans/Bubba Burgers Ford has been fast at the bigger speedways, finding speed on the shorter racetracks has been a work in progress.

WHAT THE TEAM HAS TO SAY

Jon Wood, Driver of the No. 21 Bush’s Baked Beans/Bubba Burgers Ford F-150:
“When you’re racing, you don’t have time to think about things like money,” he said. “When I’m retired and have a chance to sit down and think about it, maybe then it will be important. Right now, the only numbers that mean anything to me is where we qualify, where we race and where we finish at New Hampshire.

“This has been one of the best race trucks all year. It seems like we’re one step away from going over the top in our Ford F-150. That’s more frustrating than when it won’t run at all. We’ve struggled a bit on the flat tracks and the short tracks. We’ve worked hard in the last couple weeks to change all that. We’ve got some new things to throw at our Bush’s Baked Beans/Bubba Burgers Ford and I believe it will make the difference.”

John Monsam, Crew Chief of the No. 21 Bush’s Baked Beans/Bubba Burgers Ford F-150:
“We’ve been really good on the downforce tracks, but we’ve been lacking on flat tracks,” he said. “We’ve got several downforce races coming up, so we’re in pretty good shape for those. That’s allowed us to concentrate on this race. We’ve spent a lot of time and made some big changes to our No. 21 Ford. It should be pretty good.”
