Volvo develops a smart and tidy satellite navigation kit

Volvo has designed a Smart mounting bracket for Garmin’s latest satellite navigation unit, the nüvi 760, which offers a solution to the untidy suction cups and wires that can be associated with portable systems. Available from 3 December 2007, this unique powered holder complete with Garmin nüvi 760 can be fitted to all new Volvo cars1.

The dealer-installed Volvo bracket has an integrated power connection for the 178-gram Garmin and is fitted on top of the dashboard offering the driver a convenient plug-and-play solution and one which can also be easily folded away when the Garmin nüvi 760 has been removed2. This setup replaces the suction cups and wires that often come with portable navigators.

The new generation Garmin nüvi 760 has a 4.3" bright colour, touch screen, has the ability to search via a full 7-digit post code, uses voice prompts and can even speak street names. The unit is also compatible with a number of Bluetooth phones, doubles up as an MP3 player and comes preloaded with detailed two and three dimensional maps covering the UK, Ireland and EU.

In addition the unit houses an FM transmitter that allows the voice commands to be transmitted via a spare FM channel on the radio head unit so the voice prompts can be heard through the vehicle’s speakers. It also includes an integrated database of Volvo information, for example the quickest route to the closest Volvo workshop.

This new, innovative navigation kit and its location on the dashboard pass all Volvo ergonomic, EMC, sight and crash tests.
