Oscar Nogués, first winner of the Seat León Eurocup, will be WTCC driver in Pau

The Seat León Eurocup had its firs winner today at the Cheste racetrack: Spanish driver Oscar Nogués, who after the results achieved in both races held this weekend will be the first driver to enjoy the prize of taking part in a race of the World Touring Car Championship at the wheel of a Seat León WTCC. It will be at the French racetrack of Pau next June 1st.

The second race of the weekend was staged today on a dry track, although there were still several incidents. One of them was suffered by Spanish drivers Fernando Navarrete and Javier Ibrán which lead to the deployment of the safety car when Murray was leading ahead of Aristi, Puyo and Pedala.

The drivers had to regroup during two laps and once the safety car got back into the pit lane the positions did not change substantially. The Irish driver kept his position ahead of Pueyo and Pedalá until the end of the race. The most important aspect was the recovery of Nogués who had started from the eighth position of the grid and spectacularly moved-up to the fourth position. He tried to finish third but Pedala kept his position firmly.

In the first overall classification of the Eurocup, Nogués is in the lead, followed by Pedala and Puyo. The next round of the championship will be raced in Pau on June 1st and the winner will be participating in the WTCC race in Estoril on July 13th.

Oscar Nogués "I’m very happy to be the first winner of the Eurocup, and being able to take part in a race of the world championship again is just wonderful. It is true that the Pau racetrack is one of the most demanding and complicated since it doesn’t allow for any mistake, but I hope to be able to make a good race despite the high pace of the WTCC drivers”.
