Seat Cupras get reward for Scottish challenge

05 agosto 2008

SEAT Sport UK, in conjunction with Dunlop, the official tyre supplier of the Seat Cupra Championship, is to assist all competitors in the Championship with complimentary tyres when they race at Knockhill on August 16/17.

Each competitor will receive the six new Dunlop control tyres that they are allowed to use in the meeting's two qualifying sessions and two races free of charge - as a thank you for supporting the Knockhill meeting and to assist them with the costs involved in visiting one of Britain's most northerly racing circuits. This bonus for Seat competitors will save them £900 each, which equates to an overall saving of £13,500 across the Championship.

Like at every race meeting, £8,360 in prize money will also be up for grabs at Knockhill, with £600 going to the winner of each race and all finishers picking up cash rewards.  After Jonathan Adam's double win at Oulton Park, the title race is getting even tighter, so the stakes are high in more ways than one when the Seat Cupra Championship once again races into action at the Fife circuit.

Whilst some drivers don't have that far to travel to Knockhill, like Jonathan Adam, who lives just 23 Miles away in Kirkcaldy, and Steve Mitchell, from Letham near Forfar, others do face a long journey. The series organisers appreciate the efforts made by the likes of David Nye, who faces a 962 mile round trip from his home in Horsham, West Sussex and James Appleby who will travel a total of 950 mile between his home near Tiverton in Devon and the Scottish circuit. Other drivers in the championship will travel from Kent (Jamie Ackers), Surrey (Freddy Nordström and Jeremy Gumbley), Essex (Martin Byford), Norfolk (Carl Breeze), Hampshire (Daniel Welch), Kidderminster (Daniel Rowbottom) and London (David Green).Other drivers, like Robert Lawson, based in North Yorkshire, and Andrew Herron, from Northern Ireland, live a little closer but who will also be making an extra special effort to get to Knockhill for Rounds 15 and 16 of the Seat Cupra Championship.

Jeremy Doncaster, Seat Cupra Championship Co-ordinator: "The Knockhill circuit is a fantastic venue with a real rollercoaster of a track that suits the Seat Leon Cupra race cars. But is a very long way to come for some of our competitors. To help them in making the journey we are delighted to offer them this bonus, thanks to our partnership with Dunlop."

Gary Wassell, Manager Car Motorsport EU Dunlop: "Knockhill is a great circuit and always provides a warm welcome, but it is a long and expensive journey for many competitors, particularly at present. Given the business we enjoy and the close relationship we have with Seat Sport UK and the teams, we are delighted to help them with free tyres."

James Appleby: "Knockhill is such a long way from home that we're going to fly up to Edinburgh from Bristol airport. It's an additional £200 on top of our race weekend budget, so this nice gesture from Seat and Dunlop is very welcome. Each race tyre costs us around £150, so that's saving us £900 before we turn a wheel, which is a big help. We'll use the new tyres in qualifying and for the two races at Knockhill, and as we carry the new race weekend tyres on to the next circuit, we will effectively have free tyres for testing at Silverstone and maybe even Brands Hatch, which is another benefit."
