Team JVA take first Formula Master win

31 agosto 2008

Team JVA secured their first Formula Master victory today in Oschersleben, Germany, with driver Josef Kral taking the win in round 12 of the Series.

The 18-year-old Czech scored his first points of the season yesterday before claiming his maiden win in this afternoon's race, becoming the eighth Formula Master race winner this year. Starting in second place, Kral survived contact with Tim Sandtler and took the lead on lap one whilst ISR's Sandtler was forced to retire.

Passing Iris Project's Michael Ammermüller on lap three, Fabio Leimer (Jenzer Motorsport) ran between the German and ADM Motorsport's Norbert Siedler for the majority of the race, before a pass on Siedler allowed both Leimer and Ammermüller through.

The pair finished the race in second (Leimer) and third (Ammermüller), echoing yesterday's result despite starting in seventh and sixth respectively.

Having started tenth, JD Motorsport's Vladimir Arabadzhiev finished ahead of team-mate Sergey Afanasiev who climbed to a fifth place finish after starting the race at the back of the grid.

Jenzer Motorsport's Matei Mihaescu held off a determined Chris van der Drift in the later stages of the race to claim a sixth place finish, his best of the season and first point-scoring result in Formula Master.

A spin on lap eight demoted van der Drift from eighth to eleventh place. However, a solid drive from the JD Motorsport driver saw him climb back to a seventh place finish, ensuring his lead in the Drivers Classification remained at 13 points.

Cram Competition's Arturo Llobell claimed today's last point-scoring position in eighth place. Kral's win awarded him the best rookie accolade as well as best team-mates with fellow Team JVA driver Tor Graves who finished in ninth place.

Formula Master's international field was well represented with ten nationalities included in today's top ten drivers.

Josef Kral, Team JVA
"The start was quite hard for me, as there was contact between me and Tim Sandtler, but I stayed in front and kept pushing. It has been a really good weekend for us; the team has been really good. I had traffic in qualifying and did not start as high as I could have. But race one went well and this result for race two is fantastic.

"I thought Fabio [Leimer] and Michael [Ammermüller] would fight behind me but they didn't. I managed to keep my pace and pull away from them to get a good lead. It's hard to say before being there, but I am hoping to have the same result in Imola."

Fabio Leimer, Jenzer Motorsport
"I had a very good start and overtook Ammermüller in the first corner. I was following Siedler for a long time; he was very difficult to overtake, but in the end I managed to pass. I am very happy with the result as I have scored the most points this weekend.

"It was very hard behind Siedler, as Ammermüller was pushing to overtake. Once I was very close to overtaking but couldn't. When I did overtake I could make a gap from Ammermüller."

Michael Ammermüller, Iris Project
"My start was not very good; I was not very quick. I tried to overtake and managed to get through without any problems. Fabio was quite quick but it was hard being the third car in a line. Siedler was getting slower each lap and I tried to overtake Leimer but couldn't. But this is my second podium finish of the weekend, so I am happy."
