Duarte Felix da Costa will be racing the WTCC in Monza

Portuguese driver Duarte Felix da Costa, has earned a place in the World Touring Car Championship today and will be driving a León WTCC on the Monza circuit during the last European meeting of the Championship to be held on October 5th.

He will be the second Portuguese driver to enjoy the prize awarded by Seat to the winner of the Eurocup weekend, after his fellow countryman Lourenço Beirao, who took part in the WTCC race in Brands Hatch after winning in Estoril.

The Eurocup offered a good show to all fans gathered today in Oschersleben, with constant changes in the lead and fights at the limit, which resulted in an unexpected classification. Puyo and Boardman were the men starting from the front row, but the Englishman was quickly out of the fight for the podium, just like Nogués, winner of yesterday’s race. Puyo, Villanueva, Pedalá and Da Costa made-up the leading pack opening a gap to the rest of the participants until halfway the race.

In the last four laps, the race changed completely. Puyo fell back, and Villanueva and Pedalá, with their cars almost stuck together, fought for the victory at the very limit. The Spanish driver resisted until the last lap, but the Italian managed to take the lead after a rather risky manoeuvre, and won a spectacular race.

Nogués, winner of race one

The Spanish driver clearly dominated the first race taking the leadership from start to finish. Gabor Weber from Hungary, winner of the second race in Pau, joined him during eleven of fourteen races, opening a gap to the remaining participants. A puncture left Weber out of the podium, while Nogués was joined on the rostrum by Nash and Matejovsky, who clocked the fastest lap.

With one meeting left for the end of the Eurocup, Marin Colak, who missed out the Eurocup race, since he was racing at the WTCC, is leading the standings with an advantage of one point over Murray and eighth over Nogués.

2º J.Nash + 1.330
3º M.Matejovsky + 3.091
4º E.Murray + 4.509
5º R.Villanueva + 10.021

2º F.da Cosa + 1.585
